Why The Barnabas Beat?

36 So Joseph, a Levite who was a native of Cyprus, called by the apostles Barnabas (which is translated “son of encouragement”), 37 sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and placed it at the apostles’ feet.

Note how the actions of Barnabas throughout the bible are in keeping with the meaning of his nickname.

There has been a burning passion in Derek’s heart to reach the world through positive impact and equipping others. He believes that every leader needs a support system in order to reach their greatest potential for leadership. The name Barnabas means “Son of consolation, or encouragement.” The Barnabas Beat is an organization of people with a passion to come alongside community leaders in order to strengthen the leaders so they may be effective at impacting their world.

Derek Jones, the founder of The Barnabas Beat, has over twenty years of experience in leadership. In 2001, at the age of twenty-two, he began his journey of encouraging others by accepting the call to be a pastor. He started out as a youth leader for a local church and then eventually moved into a role as lead pastor, where he served for fifteen years. He is passionate about empowering others to reach their full potential.
